The Crime and Justice Institute, with its partners at the Pew Charitable Trusts, provided technical assistance to the task force charged with developing recommendations that formed the foundation for the legislation. CJI also supported state leadership throughout the legislative process.

The bill signings marked a major milestone after two years of data gathering, analysis, and debate. The bills are projected to avert 67 percent of the anticipated growth in Oklahoma’s prison population over the next decade, avoiding the need for 4,800 additional beds.
