This brief report, the second in our new series, describes the Crime and Justice Institute’s (CJI) role in South Dakota’s Criminal Justice Initiative Work Group, conducting a comprehensive review of South Dakota’s criminal justice system and developing policy recommendations to reduce the South Dakota’s corrections population.
Criminal justice reform legislation, in the form of the Public Safety Improvement Act, was signed into law by Governor Dennis Daugaard in February 2013.
