The Crime and Justice Institute recently hosted and facilitated a series of webinars for the Institutional Corrections Research Network (ICRN)/National Corrections Reporting Program (NCRP) group. For the third year in a row, the meeting was held in a virtual format, with attendees joining remotely from locations across the country.

The events, sponsored by the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) and the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), brought together corrections researchers from state agencies and federal partners to share information regarding data analysis tools and internal research. This year’s meeting took place over five sessions in February and March.

Topics from this year’s sessions included the impact of COVID-19, advances in behavioral and mental health, Prison Rape Elimination Act compliance resources and recommendations, and racial and ethnic disparities/disproportionate minority contact.

Participants included data suppliers to NCRP, members of ICRN, and staff from Abt Associates, NIC, BJS, and CJI.

The goals of the annual meeting include providing recommendations for a national research agenda to gather and share high-quality data through national partnerships and to bring together researchers to discuss issues and share insights on research conducted in the correctional institutions they operate.
