At the American Correctional Association (ACA) Winter Conference in Long Beach, California, Barbara Pierce Parker moderated a presentation and panel discussion entitled Reshaping Restrictive Housing: From Vision to Reality.

This presentation highlighted the work of the Crime and Justice Institute at CRJ in the State of South Dakota as it reforms its program of restrictive housing, also known as administrative segregation. Corrections leaders across the county have made restrictive housing a top priority and there has been much attention nationally on why changes are needed.  This presentation focused on the ‘how’ rather than the ‘why’ and showed how one state implemented changes and the lessons learned to date.
