Evidence-Based Strategic Planning in Kansas |
Strategic Planning Coordinator, Kansas Evidence-Based Practices Implementation EffortThe Crime and Justice Institute at CRJ was awarded a cooperative agreement by the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) to assist the Kansas Department of Corrections Community Corrections Division to develop and implement a statewide strategic plan for the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBP). CJI supported the state oversight agency as it led local community corrections agencies through an organizational change process. CJI supported capacity development of the Kansas Department of Corrections staff to serve as evidence-based practice content experts and change agents with the goal of supporting sustainable system change, at both the state and local levels. Initially, CJI gathered information in the areas of Administration and Planning; Human Resources and Training; Information Systems, Measurement and Evaluation; and Assessment, Case Planning, Interventions, and Supervision with a focus on alignment with evidence-based practices. Following the assessment phase, CJI facilitated a series of strategic planning meetings with Kansas DOC staff to support the development and implementation of a strategic plan aligned with EBP. The CJI team then provided technical assistance and training, coaching, and support to Kansas DOC staff as they implemented the strategic plan with selected pilot jurisdictions across the state. Subsequent to CJI’s involvement, the DOC has been expanding EBP implementation statewide. Visit the Kansas Department of Corrections website. |
