Ms. Danford has extensive experience in data-driven policy analysis and reform, and the implementation of evidence-based practices to reduce recidivism. Currently, Ms. Danford is working in California to assist the California Administrative Office of the Courts and the Chief Probation Officers of California in safely reducing reliance on prisons as a result of the California Community Corrections Performance Incentive Act of 2009. Ms. Danford is also working intensively in South Carolina, Kentucky and Arkansas on criminal justice legislation with support from the Pew Public Safety Performance Project. In addition, Ms. Danford provides capacity-building technical assistance and training on a variety of topics related to evidence-based practices, organizational development and collaboration in jurisdictions throughout the country.

Ms. Danford is co-author of a Roadmap for Evidence Based Practices in Community Corrections based on efforts in local communities in Virginia and CJI’s work nationally. She also manages forums to bring experts and practitioners together to create a community of practice and advance knowledge and understanding of evidence-based principles and strategies to improve public safety. She recently facilitated the development of a Strategic Plan for the Greater Lowell Reentry Partnership in Lowell, Massachusetts and managed a series of webinars to engage policy makers and practitioners from across the country in recidivism reduction strategies.

Prior to joining CJI, Ms. Danford worked for the State of Connecticut Court Support Services Division (CSSD) where she implemented initiatives focused on evidence-based policy and practice and continuous quality improvement throughout the agency. Specifically, she led an innovative statewide effort to enhance the Division’s ability to use empirical evidence and support data-driven decision making. This included design and implementation of a statewide data system to analyze client, program and systems level data through pretrial, probation, treatment and long term outcome. Ms. Danford’s work with CSSD also included program development, research, evaluation, quality assurance, training and stakeholder collaborations. Ms. Danford also worked as a probation and parole agent for the State of South Carolina where she focused on managing specialized caseloads. She has undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology, a graduate certificate in Public and Nonprofit Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
