Colby Ward Colby Ward joined the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI) at Community Resources for Justice in December of 2010. Ms. Ward has provided project and research support to several projects with CJI including Massachusetts criminal justice policy, Assessment of New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, Federal Bureau of Prisons policy, and most recently in partnership with Pew’s Public Safety Performance Project, Georgia criminal justice reform. Through her work on CJI’s Georgia criminal justice reform project, Ms. Ward assisted CJI’s Managing Associate for Policy, Len Engel, by providing a number of comprehensive research summaries on Georgia’s criminal justice system, including a roadmap of Georgia’s parole system. Prior to joining CJI, Ms. Ward worked as a criminal defense intern for the Law Office of Kevin Oliver, a private practice based out of Washington, D.C. In this position, she worked as the sole assistant to Attorney Oliver, responsible for all phases of trial preparation including constant legal research on various federal and state criminal laws. Additionally, while pursuing her Bachelors degree at the University of New Hampshire, Ms. Ward worked as a paralegal for the University of New Hampshire Legal Services where she worked directly with clients to coordinate appropriate diversion programs tailored to their needs as well as ensuring their completion of the programs as court ordered. Through her work as a criminal defense intern for Attorney Oliver and as a paralegal for the University of New Hampshire Legal Services, Ms. Ward gained an overall understanding of both the juvenile and adult justice systems, including a high level of knowledge regarding juvenile and adult diversion programs. Ms. Ward holds a Masters degree in Crime and Justice Studies from Suffolk University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire. |
