Barbara Pierce joined CJI as a Project Manager in early January 2008. She currently focuses on data system enhancement and reporting and evaluation. Prior to joining CJI, Ms. Pierce spent 5 ½ years as a Project Manager with a private consulting firm. In this position, she led large scale evaluations of SAMHSA-funded substance abuse prevention and mental health initiatives in Maine. Ms. Pierce also oversaw a quality assurance contract focused on improvements to state and county adoption practices in Ohio.

Ms. Pierce’s criminal justice experience ranges from corrections officer and then teacher at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, Maine to oversight of the budgets for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections and Department of Children, Youth and Families, under which juvenile corrections falls. She also worked as an Inspector for a federal law enforcement agency. Ms. Pierce received her Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from the Edmund S. Muskie Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Southern Maine.
